YouTube setup guide

Add videos from your YouTube channel to Activities.

YouTube is a Training connection. Connect your property's YouTube channel, then add its videos to any Activity with a YouTube block.

Before you start

  • A Google account with a YouTube channel. The connection links to the channel, not just the Google login.

  • Your training videos uploaded to that channel. The YouTube block only offers videos from your own connected channel.

Important: Many work Google accounts have never had a YouTube channel created. If yours hasn't, create a channel first or sign in with an account that has one, otherwise the connection can't be made.

Steps

  1. Select Connect on YouTube. In the sidebar, select Add connection at the bottom of the Connections list to open the Connections page.

  2. Sign in with Google and allow Paddl the access it asks for. Paddl only asks to read your channel.

  3. Add a video to an Activity. When you create or edit an Activity, choose YouTube under Add Content and pick a video from your channel.

Pro tip: Upload training videos to your channel as Unlisted. They won't appear publicly on YouTube, but you can still add them to Activities.

Which videos you can add

You can add public, unlisted and private videos from the connected channel. Paddl reads your channel only: it doesn't upload, edit or delete anything on YouTube.

What team members see

The video plays inside the Activity, without leaving Paddl.

Manage the connection

Select YouTube under Connections in the sidebar. Its page shows who connected it and when. From there you can:

  • Reauthorise to sign in again, for example if the connection needs reconnecting.

  • Disconnect to remove the link to your channel.

  • Use the Active switch to turn the connection off without removing it.

Good to know

  • Videos from other channels. To add a YouTube video that isn't on your connected channel, use Paddl's own Video block under Add Content and paste the video's link. See Activity content blocks.
